Potty Trained in 7 Days with Success – Anouk’s Story

Potty Trained in 7 Days with Success - Anouk's Story 1

Potty Trained in 7 Days – Team Member Anouk’s Story.

Last May, we made our first attempt at potty training. Our daughter, let’s call her HM, was just shy of two years old, and we thought she checked all the boxes to be ready for potty training. We had already bought a potty, a seat reducer, and a step stool, and of course, I had the Potty Training Box at home. Unfortunately, that first attempt didn’t go as expected…

More Frustration than Success

We started with full enthusiasm, but soon we noticed more accidents than successes, and even getting her to sit on the potty was a huge struggle. After a (half) success, we were super proud of her, did a little dance, and she got a reward, but we didn’t get much further than a few stickers. After more than a week without progress, we decided to stop. It was causing a lot of frustration, not just for HM, but for us as parents too.

Letting Go is Key

We decided to let go of the potty training and went on vacation. After the summer, HM started attending the toddler group at daycare, and we noticed she was making huge developmental leaps. She saw the older kids using the potty, and her interest grew. Last May, the teachers at daycare told us that HM was sitting on the potty regularly, without success but with a lot of pride.

I then found a cute book about potty training. We read it together every day, and I told her that if she used the potty, she would get a sticker. In June, we went on vacation for two weeks and didn’t pay much attention to potty training. She sat on the toilet occasionally, but nothing happened.

Suddenly, It Clicked

After our vacation, things progressed quickly. One Thursday at noon, I was about to change HM, and she said she didn’t want to wear a diaper anymore. She had worn it in the morning as usual. My husband and I looked at each other and thought, why not? If she’s indicating it herself, we can definitely give it a try. So, off came the diaper, and on went the underwear. She held her pee for a few hours, and later in the afternoon, she said she needed to go, so she sat on the potty and made her first big pee! We did a dance and put a sticker together.

We noticed she could hold her pee for quite a long time. We have a girl who doesn’t like to make mistakes, so we told her that accidents aren’t a big deal and that they help her get closer to success. That reassured her, and eventually, she peed more often, with only a small accident here and there.

The following days went incredibly well, and after three days, she didn’t want to use the potty anymore and went straight to the toilet. Pooping still happened in the diaper, but she indicated when she needed to go. We put the diaper on, she did her poop, and we then flushed it down the toilet together.

On day 4, we had family over, and we were curious about how it would go. That day too, she indicated when she needed to go, and she saw her cousin using the toilet for his big job. From that moment, the diaper was no longer needed for pooping either.

She was potty trained within three days and had about three accidents in one week. We are super happy that she indicated herself that she didn’t want to wear a nappy anymore, and we gave her the space and time to practice well. I think there was too much pressure during the first attempt, but this time, we let her take the lead, and we helped her whenever she needed it.

And now she’s Potty Trained in 7 Days!

We are incredibly proud of HM and very happy with the Potty Training Box and the steps that are easy to follow and apply in a way that suits your child. I have learned a lot over the past two years, but putting it into practice with your own child is, of course, very different. My husband also found it a great approach. We were a real team of three and made each success a celebration.
